2017 AQHA Mare

15.1 HH

SUGARS HARD TO BEAT (Lil) has the cutest head and a personality that will make you giggle. The star, strip, snip and black feet lured me to purchase her as a weanling.

Lil is super friendly and wants to be around people. She loves to be bathed, drinks out of a hose, and enjoys any pampering. Lil loves her treats and is all lip when she gently takes them from you.

Over the last 7 years, Lil has been the personality of our herd. She knows her name and comes when she is called out of our pasture and is the first to look for her grain. Lil will point to her itchy spot with her loose lip while you are grooming her.

I broke her as a 2 year old, showed her in the Sugar Bars Futurity as a 3 year old, and in the Sugar Bars Maturity as a 5 year old. Lil is smooth to ride at all gates and has a rocking horse lope. She excels in showing Ranch Riding, Ranch Rail, Ranch Trail, rides excellent on a mountain trail and enjoys moving cattle. Lil side passes over logs, opens and closes gates, does flying lead changes, changes stride length for lope or trot overs, spins, stops, and backs all on a loose one handed neck rein. She is easy going and anyone that has been around her falls in love.

Lil has been ridden extensively in the Big Horn Mountains on trails and traversing through the timber looking for elk and elk sheds. I love riding Lil on the mountain because she takes her time through the timber, has careful foot placement and takes excellent care of her rider. You can be the leader, the follower, or anywhere in between. She has been elk hunted off of, led pack horses, and packed out an elk in a pack saddle.

Due to a cosmetic wire cut as a 2 year old, Lil needs to be trimmed every 8 weeks and shod when ridden on rocky terrain; she has never been lame even while ridden on a gravel road. I have radiographs from March 2024 with a veterinarian confirming that the wire cut is just cosmetic.

Lil will be a fun addition for anyone in the family at any level to ride trails or take to your local ranch horse shows!

Hi! My name is Chris Bloomgren and I have been riding horses since I've been able to sit up. I grew up in North Dakota helping out on my family's cattle/yearling ranch until moving to Wyoming to become a full time junior high school business and computer science teacher. Throughout the years, I have been involved in many equine activities: 4-H, barrel racing, pasture roping/doctoring yearlings, breakaway roping, cowboy mounted shooting, mountain riding, ranch horse versatility, in-hand trail, and breaking colts. My husband, daughter and I purchase 1-3 weanlings every year to raise and train. Our program consists of desensitizing and exposing our horses to all things on a ranch, riding bareback, boondocking through the timber on the mountains, elk hunting, packing with pack saddles and panniers, and showing in ranch horse versatility classes. We have developed a passion to continually learn new training techniques, attending horse sales that specialize in weanlings, making new friends along the way and blessing others with a life-long equine companion.
